I just got delivered my weight in calendars!
I am very excited, as this year's project is a labor of love stemming from my work as a Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep volunteer at Egleston and Scottish Rite and in the process developing a deep awe towards Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, their staff, knowledge, facilities and dedication!
100% of the proceeds from sales of these calendars benefit CHOA.
Oana Hogrefe Photography donated over 30 hours of photo sessions, and 50+ hours of design and preparation towards this effort.
28 local families generously participated in the making of the calendar, and many more have been a part of the fundrasing by purchasing votes and pre-ordering calendars.
To date, together we have raised over $3,500 from voting on the finalists and choosing the child-of-the-month featured imagery!
I look forward to seeing how much more of an impact we can make via calendar sales. You can see the design and buy copies via the Childhood Calendar website. We will gladly ship to out-of-towners!
Any suggestions of places you know where we can sell several of them are much appreciated (are you a business owner who can help dispaly these on your site or in your store? would your co-workers be interested? how about people in your parent group or place of worship? they make great gifts for teachers, healthcare providers, and are fun in kids' rooms!).
The calendars will be available until the current batch sells out or until the end of January, whichever comes first.
Feeling overwhelmed with gratitude towards all the families who are generously making this outreach possible: thank you!

Sibling session
{midtown atlanta photography}
This family is not only fun and beautiful and all-around wonderful, they are also members of my Four Seasons plan, which means we get to meet four times in two years - a great way to create memories of the kids at this fast-changing, exciting time in their lives!
I look forward to seeing these storyboards on their walls (they came back from production today and they look great on the premium textured metallic paper I used for most of the wall portraits). See you guys again for family portraits in another few days!

Fall in Atlanta - bliss!
Such a gorgeous weekend! We spent today in an extended playdate, hiking then playing at home with our children and their best friends (who are also siblings). Being outdoors with my family recharges me like nothing else!

Family portraits at the park
{suwanee child portraiture}
I love meeting and photographing this family year after year! Those first few years are so full of wonder and milestone after milestone! This little girl was sitting and crawling last Summer, now look at her go!
And big brother is growing into a fine young man, as they are preparing to welcome a new sibling in a couple of months.
Thank you for inviting me to witness the beauty and love in your family!

Autumn is almost here!
{atlanta lifestyle portraits}

Just before Fall is officially here, we spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon picking apples North of Atlanta, at BJ Reece Apple House. We had a great time!
The apple crisp we baked once home was a hit as well!

Come cast some votes and help Children's Healthcare of Atlanta!

Voting has begun for the Childhood Calendar featured images -- you may know this is a yearly project I have initiated, which aims to raise funds for children-centered local charities.
The 2011 calendar benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, which is an incredible local non-profit, providing exceptional care for half a million children each year.
I am so excited to see the generosity of so many who believe in this cause!

Charity Calendar photoshoots almost complete!
{atlanta family photography}
This month is dedicated to completing the picture-taking for the Childhood Calendar. Despite the 90+F heat and steamy weather, I had a blast meeting the wonderful little ones who are participating in this fundraiser.
In September we'll have our online voting to select the top 10 choice images to use in the calendar; this process will raise further funds for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and in October stay tuned for ways to purchase your very own copy of the calendar!
100% (that's every penny) of the voting and sale funds goes to CHOA, a very worthy institution, whose love for children is only matched by the knowledgeable dedication of their staff.
Here is one of my recent gorgeous models:

And her baby sister who came along for the ride, and whose previews I wanted to post to wish her Happy 1st! What a milestone!

Stay tuned for more previews over the next couple of weeks
One more thing: if you are a client, have you joined OanaClub, on Facebook? Come and request your pass to join, for access to special offers and surprises!

We're back!
We returned from our wonderful vacation (pictures to follow), we had an amazing time!
Back to school, back to work: August and September are mostly dedicated to the Redeaded children's portrait book, and the charity Childhood Calendar.
Here are a few more sneak peeks from sessions of redheads, it's been so hard to end the shooting for this (I seem to meet beautiful redheads every day!), but we need to get to finishing the book design!

Summer trip (GA-MS-TX-CO-KS-MO-TN)
Here is our itinerary for our cross-country (so to speak) trip beginning July 16th! We'll arrive in Denver on the 21st, leave on August 2nd and return to Atlanta on August 8th, give or take.
If you or someone you know are along this route (Jackson MS, Dallas TX, Amarillo, TX, Denver CO, Salina KS (!), Saint Louis, MO, Nashville, TN) let me know and we can meet!
If you're a photographer, I would love to continue the Road Trip Pay-It-Forward tradition begun by John Michael Cooper and take a few pictures of your family!
If you're a family looking for a unique photo opportunity or you're someone seeking an hour of one-on-one photography instruction, email oana@shutterview.com and I will let you know of the very special offer I have for you!
So excited to be taking this trip, we already have several families and people we look forward to seeing along our route -- plus can't wait to spend these three weeks with my husband and kids (and more family and friends along the way!).
A picture from our previous trip to Colorado, 5 years ago! So much has changed, my Dad has passed, Mary is in our lives, this boy can now read:

Seven Ways to Improve the Photographs You Take of Your Children
Enjoy this interview created for the Power of Care blog!
While I believe that artful, professional images of your family are an essential way to remember children's milestones and ages, there are daily opportunities for us as parents to create better photographs which help fill in the children's personal history with reminders of all the wonderful and fleeting times who make them who they are.
We are the storytellers of their young lives, entrusted with helping them remember who they were from the very beginning.
These are a few suggestions on how you can improve the pictures you take, I hope you find them useful! I would love to hear your feedback and any questions you might have!
